Brief Descriptions for Volumes 1 - 6
Volume #1: The Disappearing Pennies
In this lesson were going to
demonstrate and discuss some concepts of acids and bases. Were going to do this
by showing a myriad of colors produced by several reactions occurring in one
apparatus, and it all starts with two copper pennies.
Volume #2: Solutions that come apart
In this lesson were going to learn what
happens when we mix an aqueous solution with an organic solution. To mix or not
to mix…will they dissolve in one another.
Volume #3: Hot and Cold
Reactions
In this lesson were going to
learn how chemical reactions not only produce heat, but in certain circumstances
can produce cold.
Volume #4: Oxidation and Reduction
Reactions
In this lesson were going to run some
chemical reactions using hydrogen peroxide. Specifically were going to produce a
rainbow of colors by demonstrating how hydrogen peroxide, can both Oxidize and
Reduce.
Volume #5: Kool Separations
In this lesson were going to separate
different colored dyes contained in grape Kool-Aid using a technique called
Column Chromatography.
Volume #6: Substitution
Reactions
In this lesson were going to
learn about nucleophilic substitution reactions. Were going to produce a series
of color changes which will help us observe how nucleophilic substitution
reactions take place.
