CLASS FIELD TRIP
Live Event #2: Classroom Field Trip
Black History Month Special
Celebrating African-American Scientists and Inventors Through Live Science Demonstrations
This classroom field-trip event series is designed to introduce, highlight and reinforce student’s
understanding of the important contributions made to science and technology by African-Americans. This
high-impact event series is a novel approach to teaching and learning science through event-based
instruction. The event series consists of live science demonstrations, where each lesson features a
biographical look at an African-American scientist and/or inventor who influenced the science behind the
experiment. One of the goals of this event series is to provide students with a foundation on how science
has evolved over the years with the help of African-Americans. Another goal is to cultivate more
scientifically literate students as we enter a new phase of standardized testing in science education.
